The producers of Andhra Pori have been dragged to court by an organisation called the Andra Settlers Forum that has alleged that the title hurts the sentiment of the people of Andhra. A judgment is due Thursday. The film, which is slated to release in cinemas on Friday, is on hold pending the judgment.
The lawsuit alleges that the title is a derogatory phrase used to refer to women, and Andhra Pori is demeaning to the women of Andhra.
Starring filmmaker Puri Jagganadh’s son Akash, the film is a remake of Marathi movie Time Pass. In preparation for his role, Akash underwent workshops and special classes to master the Telangana accent that he speaks in the movie. Directed by Raj Mudiraju, the film features Ulka Gupta in the lead.
