Anurag Kashyap will take over as director of Super 30, the Hrithik Roshan starrer that hit a roadblock after its director Vikas Bahl was called out during the #MeToo movement.
Kashyap and Bahl, along with Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena were partners at Phantom Films – the production company which was disbanded in the wake of the movement. Vikas Bahl, director and co-producer of Super 30, was accused of sexual assault by one of the workers at Phantom Films. Bahl has previously directed Shaandaar and Queen.
According to India Today, Kashyap confirmed the reports that he was overseeing the movie. “At the moment I am getting Womaniya (another production) started, but yes, I will be overseeing the post-production of Super 30.” However, the director was not very pleased about taking up the project. “There are at least 30 new people debuting with this film. It’s just out of responsibility for the money put in production.”

Earlier, it had been reported that Karan Johar was set to take over the film. “After Kangana put her film Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi opposite Super 30 on Republic Day, it was expected that Hrithik would not back off from that date, but then things haven’t reached the completion stage. It is now being speculated that a top filmmaker (Karan Johar), who also collaborated on Simmba with Reliance and is close to Hrithik Roshan, would mediate and try and set things right so that the film can reach the screens eventually,” said a source, according to a report in DC.
Super 30, has been named after the organization founded by Anand Kumar in 2002. The programme picks 30 students from backward classes and provides them training for the Joint Entrance Exam, the entrance test to IITs. Kumar provides food, accommodation and books for the duration of the course.
In 2008, the entire batch managed to clear the exams. This feat was repeated in 2009 and 2017. Time magazine feted the programme in its ‘Best of Asia 2010’ list.
