AR Rahman In Oscar Race Again For Pelé: The Birth Of A Legend

AR Rahman’s work in Pelé: Birth Of A Legend has found a spot in this year’s list of Oscar contenders. Rahman, who has already won two Oscars, will be competing in the Best Original Score and Best Original Song categories. Pelé: Birth of a Legend is an American biographical film about the early life of Brazilian footballer Pelé. The film is directed and written by Jeff Zimbalist and Michael Zimbalist, and released in May this year.

Rahman’s soundtrack will be competing against the likes of soundtracks for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, La La Land, Moana,  Florence Foster Jenkins and The Birth of a Nation. In all, 145 original scores are in the list for Best Original Score vying for the Oscar.

The song “Ginga” from the film is in the list of 91 songs competing for nominations in the Best Original Song category, as per this list released by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Nominations for the Oscars will be announced on Tuesday, 24 January, 2017 with the main ceremony scheduled for Sunday, 26 February, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood. Late show host Jimmy Kimmel will be hosting the Oscars for the first time.
