There Hindi version of the ‘Marvel’ Anthem, composed by AR Rahman to commemorate the release of Avengers: Endgame, the last instalment in the superhero franchise, has released. The Tamil and Telugu versions of the roughly three-minute long video are expected soon.
The release of Avengers: Endgame has been hailed as the ‘biggest pop-cultural’ event of the year. Rahman, who had also composed the Hockey anthem for the recently concluded Hockey World Cup held in India, seems to have become the go-to guy for any international event pertaining to India.
The accompanying video offers glimpses of Marvel characters as well as scenes from the previous movies. These have been juxtaposed with the original visuals of Rahman singing, as he walks along streets.
Apparently, the song has not gone down well with listeners. Twitterati has not taken kindly to the new anthem.
This song just killed the remaining half of the universe. @Marvel_India

#MarvelAnthem is shot well and @arrahman is looking dashing but the song is not a marvel?

Sad to say @arrahman sir…so dissatisfied & disappointed. Expected a lot. The anthem doesn't go with the flow or flavour of @MarvelStudios Avengers Endgame.
Rather sounds like another hockey or IPL anthem.— Subhajit Sarkar (@Subhaji31459213) April 1, 2019
Bikram Duggal, Head – Studios, Marvel India, while commissioning the Oscar-winning composer to create the anthem, had said “Avengers: Endgame is not just a movie, it’s an emotional journey for fans everywhere in India. An original composition by Oscar winner A.R. Rahman was the perfect way to celebrate the love for Marvel among fans in the country. This is our small way of thanking the fans here for their extraordinary support.”
Talking about the offer, Rahman had said that there was immense pressure on him to deliver as his own family was a fan of the franchise. “Being surrounded by Marvel fans in my own family, there was too much pressure to come with something really satisfying and apt for Avengers: Endgame. I hope Marvel aficionados and music lovers enjoy the track,” he said.
Produced by Kevin Feige, Avengers: Endgame is directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo. Despite half the characters meeting their end in the previous movie, the new edition still boasts an ensemble cast comprising Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Hemsworth and Brie Larson. The movie is reportedly Chris Evan’s last outing as the iconic character Steve Rogers from Captain America.
Avengers Endgame releases on April 26.
