Chennai 28 actor Aravind Akash has joined the cast of Pa Ranjith’s Kaala. The actor will reportedly play a character called Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, which is incidentally lead actor Rajinikanth’s real name.
Speaking to The Times of India, Aravind said that he didn’t think twice about accepting this role. “I play the role of a Marathi policeman in the movie. I have started shooting for the role, but haven’t been able to meet Thalaivar still. After all, it takes time to meet God himself.”

He further added that he’s come a long way from being a dancer to an actor. “I was a background dancer in Rajini’s Arunachalam. My mother was also a background dancer since 1981. She has also worked with Thalaivar in movies like Velaikaran. She was known as Didi and her original name is Susheela Parinder Kaur. So from being a dancer, I have come a long way.”
The film, set in Mumbai, will have characters speaking in Hindi and Marathi as well. “I know Hindi, and Marathi is not very difficult. So, I am picking up,” he said.
Kaala stars Rajinikanth and Huma Qureshi, with Samuthirakani and Anjali Patil playing pivotal roles. Actors Nana Patekar, Pankaj Tripathi, and several others have roles too. The music is composed by Santhosh Narayanan, who had previously composed for Kabali. G Murali will handle the cinematography.
