Varmaa, directed by Bala, was the original cut of the Tamil remake of Vijay Deverakonda’s Arjun Reddy. Due to differences between producers and the director, the release was halted last year and it was remade as Adithya Varma.
“We at E4 Entertainment are not at all happy with the final version handed over to us (Director Bala had made the film on a first copy basis) and due to various creative and other differences, we have decided not to release this version,” producer Mukesh Mehta said in a statement.
According to The Hindu, the decision to reshoot the film was taken by Vikram as he felt the film was not a perfect launchpad for his son.”We cannot take chances with Dhruv Vikram’s first film as hero… that’s the reason we are going for a re-shoot,” Mehta said.
Adithya Varma was directed by Gireesaaya, with an entirely new cast, including Banita Sandhu and Priya Anand in the lead.
Fans were unhappy with Adithya Varma, as they felt it was a scene-to-scene remake of Arjun Reddy and have been demanding the release of Bala’s version of the movie, stoking the controversy regarding who gets the final word when it comes to taking creative decisions in filmmaking.

Meanwhile, Dhruv Vikram will be acting along with his father Chiyaan Vikram in Karthik Subbaraj’s next film. There have also been reports from DTNext that Dhruv will be joining hands with Mari Selvaraj of Pariyerum Perumal fame.
