Bankrolled by Shareen Mantri and Kishor Arora under the Namah Pictures banner, the biopic will be based on the life of Birsa Munda, a tribal leader from Jharkhand who stood up to British colonial oppressors in the 19th century.

Speaking about the upcoming film, Ranjith said in a statement, “I could not have chosen a better project for my first Hindi film. The process of scripting and research for the film has been a very enriching process. I have gained inspiration from Birsa’s life and his conviction for freedom and autonomy.”

Mantri added that the team has undertaken intense research for the film to bring alive Birsa’s story on a grand scale.

According to the press release, the team has extensively toured Jharkhand and Bengal to trace Birsa’s life and is currently lending final touches to the script. “The action drama will be shot at hitherto unseen locations and will bring to the big screen verdant landscapes and deep jungles,” the statement read.

Ranjith’s last directorial was the 2021 Tamil sports action film, Sarpatta Parambarai. In January, the filmmaker wrapped up the shoot for his next Tamil film, Natchathiram Nagargirathu, which is expected to be a female-centric love story. It features actors Dushara VijayanKalidas JayaramAshok Selvan, and Shabeer Kallarakkal.

Ranjith is also in talks with actor Vikram for a film, Silverscreen India learned.
