The Jodhpur court on Thursday convicted Salman Khan and acquitted the rest in the 1998 blackbuck poaching case. According to latest reports, he has been sentenced to five years of imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 10,000 also levied on him.

Salman Khan was accused of killing two blackbucks in a village near Jodhpur in Rajasthan on the intervening night of October 1-2, 1998. The actors were in Jodhpur for the shooting of Hum Saath Saath Hain.
Salman was charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act and the other actors were charged under Section 51 of the Wildlife (Protection) Act read with Section 149 (unlawful assembly) of the Indian Penal Code.
The case also involved two more accused, Dushyant Singh, who was allegedly accompanying the actors when the poaching took place, and Dinesh Gawre, said to be Salman Khan’s assistant.
Salman was also accused of carrying and using illegal arms also as he was alleged to have been carrying arms with expired licence. A case under different sections of the Arms Act was registered against him. In January, however, Salman was acquitted by the Chief Judicial Magistrate in this case. The state government challenged this verdict in an appeal.
