Bob Biswas, the upcoming Hindi thriller film starring Abhishek Bachchan, will premiere on Zee5, the OTT platform announced on Wednesday.
According to the report, while the release deal of the film has been locked, the team is yet to decide on the date of release. An official announcement will be made soon. Bob Biswas is a spin-off of the Hindi thriller film film Kahaani, starring Vidya Balan. While Kahaani was directed by Sujoy Ghosh, its spin-off will be directed by his daughter Diya Ghosh. Diya’s short film Neighbourhood Ties was showcased in Cannes in 2018. She will be making her feature directorial debut with Bob Biswas.
Produced by Gauri Khan, Sujoy Ghosh, and Gaurav Verma, Bob Biswas is based on a character from Kahaani. Bengali actor Saswata Chatterjee played the role in the original film.
The film went on floors in January, 2020 and shooting came to a halt in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Shooting later resumed and was wrapped up in December, 2020. Pictures from the film’s sets in Kolkata had earlier leaked online and they featured Bachchan in Bob Biswas’ attire. The film also stars Chitrangada Singh.

Bachchan was last seen in The Big Bull, which also had a direct OTT premiere on Disney+ Hotstar earlier this year. In the film directed by Kookie Gulati and produced by Ajay Devgn, Bachchan played the role of Harshad Mehta, a stockbroker, involved in financial crimes that lasted over a decade from 1980 to 1990. The film also starred Nikita Dutta, Ileana D’Cruz, Sohum Shah, Ram Kapoor, and Saurabh Shukla.
Bachchan will be next seen in Dasvi, Dinesh Vijan’s social comedy film which will release sometime in the first quarter of 2022. Although reports have stated that he might play the role of a cricketer in director R Balki‘s next, no official announcement has been made regarding the project.
