The week’s releases had quite a variety going for moviegoers. A cop-thriller, a slice-of-life woman-centric one, and two comedy films released this Friday, with Karthi’s and Vidya Balan’s being the major releases.
Here’s a look at their performance at the box office:
Tumhari Sulu (Hindi)
Directed by Suresh Triveni, the film stars Vidya Balan as Sulochana aka Sulu, a homemaker who becomes an RJ. Also starring theatre actor Manav Kaul, Neha Dhupia, and RJ Mallishka. The film has been received well by critics and audience, with an even better performance at the box office.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh notes that the film opened to Rs 2.87 crores on Friday, and witnessed a more than 60 percent growth on Saturday.

Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (Tamil)
The action entertainer is directed by Sathuranga Vettai fame H Vinoth and has Karthi Sivakumar playing a cop and Rakul Preet Singh as the female lead. Music is by Ghibran and Sathyan Suriyan is the cinematographer. SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu produce the film through their Dream Warrior Pictures.
Reviews have mostly been favourable towards the film, with reports suggesting that it opened to approximately Rs 3.2 crores in Tamil Nadu alone.
Word of mouth has also propelled the film to fare well abroad. Released as Khakee in Telugu, the film has earned $32,345 in the US market on its opening day.

En Aaloda Seruppa Kaanom (Tamil)
Translated to ‘My Girl’s Slippers are Missing’ from Tamil, the film stars Anandhi, Tamizh, Yogi Babu, KS Ravikumar, and Jayaprakash. Directed by KP Jagan who last directed Raman Thediya Seethai in 2008.
Dubbed as a romantic comedy, the film focuses on the male lead (Pandi) who finds a pair of shoes on a rainy day, and goes in search of its owner.
Considering it released with a top contender like Karthi’s Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru, the feedback have mostly been few, with reviews not being too favourable. The film’s box office report isn’t out yet.

Punyalan Private Limited (Malayalam)
A comedy film directed by Ranjith Sankar, whose last release was Ramante Eden Thottam this year starring Kunchacko Boban and Anu Sithara, Punyalan Private Limited stars Jayasurya, Vijayraghavan, Aju Varghese, Sreejith Ravi, and others.

The film deals with friends who become entrepreneurs together and how they clash with the system again and the ways they adopt in an effort to make their dream come true. The film is a sequel to the 2013 film Punyalan Agarbattis in which Jayasurya plays Joy Thakkolkaran.
Subjected to mostly mixed reviews, the film has reportedly earned decent revenue at the Kerala box office. According to TopMovieRankings.com, the film made Rs 1.68 crores in Kerala on its first day, earning a little over Rs 21 lakhs in Kochi alone.
