Udhayam and Kamala Cinemas will not screen Rajinikanth’s Kaala due to a disagreement with the producers over profit sharing. The two theatres are close to Chennai’s unofficial film district – Kodambakkam, and are known to be quite popular with film-goers.
An executive with Udhayam Theatre told Silverscreen that the demands of the Kaala team were not satisfactory. “We simply cannot meet their demands. They want us to raise our ticket price, and that is something we cannot do legally.”
Riaz Ahmed, the spokesperson for Kaala, disputed the claims. “The problem arose because the theatre management could not agree with us on the terms and conditions. It has nothing whatsoever to do with ticket prices.”
Dhanush’s production company Wunderbar Films also refuted the charges.
Kamala & Udhayam theaters have not expressed their consent to the similar terms that's been agreed by other cinemas. News going around saying huge demands put forth is absolutely false & baseless.#Kaala
