Singer Chris Cornell’s sudden death has been ruled a suicide. The Wayne County (Michigan) Medical Examiner’s Office issued a statement on Thursday confirming that the cause of death was suicide by hanging, and added that a full autopsy report had not yet been completed.
Cornell hanged himself in a hotel room in Detroit, US. Cornell was there while touring with his group Soundgarden, at the time of his death. According to the group’s representative Brian Bumbery, his death was “sudden and unexpected.”

Earlier, on Wednesday night, Cornell had performed at the Fox Theatre with his band, ending his performance with a cover of Led Zeppelin’s “In My Time Of Dying”.
The performer first came to fame in the late 1980s as the lead singer of Soundgarden, a Seattle-based grunge rock band.
Soundgarden disbanded in 1997 but reunited in 2010 and has toured regularly since then.
Soundgarden won two Grammy Awards in 1995, for Best Metal Performance (“Spoonman”) and Best Hard Rock Performance (“Black Hole Sun”).
Cornell had a long battle with alcohol and substance addiction, and was often in rehab centres..
