Noted Tamil Cinematographer Priyan Dies

Cinematographer Priyan passed away at his KK Nagar residence earlier today. He was 55. Family sources confirm that he died after suffering a cardiac arrest.

Priyan, who has frequently collaborated with director Hari, has worked in films like Poojai, Singam series. He was currently working on Hari’s Saamy Square.


Priyan began his career as an assistant to Balu Mahendra. He worked with the legendary director on films such as Olangal, Sadma, Moondram Pirai and Yaathra. Following this, he worked on the camera unit for Mani Ratnam’s Pagal Nilavu and Nayagan.

He has worked mostly in action entertainers and has collaborated with director Hari in 13 films.

Priyan was the vice-president of the South Indian Cinematographer’s Association. The SICA has expressed its condolences.

A family source reveals that his body will most likely be taken to his native Virudhunagar for cremation.
