A complaint was filed against actor Vemal and three of his friends for allegedly assaulting Telugu actor Abhishek Verma at a service apartment in Virugambakkam, Chennai. Sources say that Vemal absconded after the incident yesterday, and the police are looking for him.
According to many reports, Vemal and his friends were staying at a guest house in the same complex as Abhishek’s house. A ToI report quotes the police as saying that Vemal came to the serviced apartment drunk on Monday afternoon. Abhishek, who also inebriated, was seated on a chair in the apartment lodge and did not acknowledge Vemal’s presence. This reportedly prompted Vemal to pick a fight with him.
“Abishek did not realise that it was actor Vimal,” the police said. Vemal grabbed Abhishek’s phone and attacked him, while his three friends joined in. Abhishek suffered injuries to his eyes and face, and was taken to a hospital. He later filed a complaint against Vemal at the Virugambakkam police station, under IPC sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 294b (Uttering obscene language).
Abhishek has been staying at the service apartment in Chennai for over a month, to shoot for Avan Adhu Aval. The police have recovered CCTV footage from the venue of the reported incident. A team is on the look out for the four accused in the case.
