Produced by Anka Media, the film, whose title look poster was released on Thursday, was launched with an official ceremony the following day.

In conversation with Silverscreen India, Swadees, who is making his directorial debut with Contractor Nesamani, says, “While I cannot reveal much about the story, I can tell you that it will be a comedy script which will be easily relatable to 90s and 2000s kids. That being said, it is primarily an entertainer for children. There will be no cringe comedy or adult humour. It will be a film about celebrating friendship, among other things.”

U Anbu, director of the 2020 crime action film Walter, has penned the story of the film. “I worked under him as associate in Walter and he is also a long-time friend of mine. He pitched the one-liner to me and we decided to collaborate on the project,” says Swadees.

The poster of the film features pop culture references such as a Salvador Dali mask and Spider-Man, while the title is derived from the iconic comical character portrayed by actor Vadivelu in the 2001 Tamil comedy-drama Friends.

Asked if these elements have any connection to the film, Swadees replies, “Everything in the poster is connected with the script. As for the title, we thought it would be apt for the film, but there won’t be much of a reference to Vadivelu’s character.”

The filmmaker reveals that Oviya was cast as she will be well received among the young audience. “Similarly, Yogi Babu is very popular among kids and what he says will easily reach them,” he adds.

Apart from Yogi Babu, the film will also feature other comedians, whose casting is underway.

Contractor Nesamani will go on floors in October with Subash Dhandapani handling the cinematography. The team is expected to shoot in Chennai, Pollachi, and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu. Venkat Ramanan has been roped in as the editor, while Dharma Prakash will compose the music.

The team is tentatively planning for a December or January release in theatres.
