Actor Dhanush has sought the Madras High Court regarding a case against him filed by an elderly couple claiming that he is their son. In his petition, Dhanush denies being their son and calls it a ‘case of blackmailing’ from the couple’s side. The actor vehemently denies being their son, clarifying that he was born Venkatesh Prabhu to Krishnamoorthy and Vijayalakshmi at the Children’s Hospital in Egmore, Chennai, on July 28, 1983, and changed his name after entering the film industry.
“This honourable court can take judicial notice of the fact that such frivolous and false cases are generally filed against well-known personalities. Actress Sridevi was one such victim and the petitioner is the latest in the series of victims,” he was quoted saying.
R Kathiresan (65) and his wife K Meenakshi (53) of Melur, Tamil Nadu, made a petition to the court last year in which they alleged that Dhanush is their son. In their petition, they said that Dhanush ran away from home when he was a teenager, and began to work for film director Kasthuri Raja in Chennai. When they attempted to see Dhanush in the city, they were blocked by Raja.

When the issue emerged in November last year, Kasthuri Raja told Silverscreen that these claims put him and his family in a very awkward position. “I’ve heard of this news recently. I feel uncomfortable that I have been forced to be in this position. I have been in the spotlight for three decades. During much of the time, the public and the media have become privy to my personal life. The senior among the media today know my sons very well. Dhanush too,” he said.

Thus far, Dhanush has urged the Madras HC to stay all further proceedings before the Magistrate until a final decision was taken by the court on his plea regarding the case. Justice G Chockalingam, who heard the case, ordered the issuance of a notice to the couple and adjourned the case to February 8.
