A photograph of the script of Maari 2 is making waves on Twitter. Actor Dhanush posted the picture on his official Twitter account yesterday, and said that he had received the completed and bound script from director Balaji Mohan.

It did not take long for the photo and Dhanush’s tweet to begin trending across social media.
The award-winning Maari (2015) had an open-ended climax, indicating that a sequel was planned. With this tweet, there is now confirmation that a sequel is actually in the works. In Maari, Dhanush played a fierce, morally ambiguous don in North Madras.
Maari‘s editor GK Prasanna won several awards for his work in the film. It was however criticised for lacking a powerful villain, as was the case with Dhanush’s VIP and Kodi. Maari drew heavily on Dhanush’s earlier portrayal of a North Madras don in Pudupettai, and contained several references to popular ‘mass’ moments from his earlier films.

His next film Enai Nokki Paayum Thotta is likely to be quite different. Rana Daggubati has a major role in the project, directed by GV Menon. Given Daggubati’s performance as a dangerous antagonist in Baahubali, he might just be the powerful villain Dhanush’s recent films have been lacking.
And Balaji Mohan would do well to follow Menon’s lead in Maari 2.
