Despite the recent expulsion of Pahlaj Nihalani, and some significant change in the censor board, a Tamil-Hindi bilingual called Thupparivu 2020 on the government-run Swachh Bharat Campaign, has reportedly been denied censorship. According to a Deccan Chronicle report, independent filmmaker Dinesh’s documentary-fusion album explores the ‘clean-India’ campaign.
He told the DC:

“First they asked me to remove the reference to PM Modi from the album. Later, they said the lyrics are provocative and there’s hidden communism in it. Each time I go for reviewing, a new panel of members would sit and watch. They will say their views and butcher the song! Finally, after going for the fourth time when I realised that nothing seems to move, I took a call to release the uncut version on online platforms. [sic]”
The docu-album includes a song sung by devotional singer Veeramanidaasan, with the intent of creating awareness about the ‘clean India’ concept. The CBFC, according to Dinesh, denied a certificate stating that it is against the government and it may appear controversial.
Thupparivu 2020‘s audio was launched a few days ago, with producer Kalaipuli S Thanu in attendance.
