Documentary on actress Sunny Leone, titled Mostly Sunny Partly Cloudy was premiered at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Directed by Toronto-based filmmaker Dilip Mehta, the documentary focuses on Leone’s journey from acting in the adult film industry to her current position in Bollywood.
Born Karenjit Kaur Vohra in the small town of Sarnia in the Canadian province of Ontario 35 years ago, Leone continues to be ostracised for pursuing a rather controversial career choice. The community in her hometown is against her coming back. This is highlighted in the documentary.

Dilip, who is known for his five-year coverage of The Bhopal gas tragedy and for working with his filmmaker sister Deepa Mehta for Water, reportedly met the actress about two years ago. “I had already said yes to the producer and to size each other up Sunny, her husband Daniel and I met at the Juhu Marriott in Mumbai. Our lunch meeting was a prolonged one where Sunny and I both vented but by and large we were pretty much on the same page to make a no- holds-barred documentary on this new phenomenon on the Bollywood horizon,” said Dilip.

The filmmaker spoke of a rather easy time with the actress. “Over the course of one year in the making of our film, I can’t recall a single incident when Sunny asked us to switch off the camera. She gave us unfettered access to her film sets, the making of music videos such as ‘Pink Lips’ amongst others, and to her family, friends and Team Sunny. It’s as though we were joined at the hips,” he added.
Meanwhile, Sunny Leone had said that she agreed to the documentary because she wanted to reveal the truth about herself and not let other’s judgement prevail over hers. “In the documentary people will get to know who I really am and what I feel. My story and my journey will be shared with everyone and I am fine with that,” she said.
