Dulquer Salman’s Kammattipaadam Trailer Packs A Punch

The trailer of Kammattipaadam, Dulquer Salman’s first collaboration with cinematographer-director Rajeev Ravi, is out. Penned by playwright and actor P Balachandran, the film narrates the story of Kochi—its growth from an underdeveloped agricultural land to a crowded metropolis, and a flourishing ground for criminal gangs. The trailer offers a glimpse of the action and romantic scenes. The film stars Dulquer Salman, Vinayakan, and Rasika Dugal.

Rajeev Ravi has wielded camera for a number of Bollywood movies, including Gangs Of Wasseypur and Bombay Velvet. According to a Southlive interview with P Balachandran, Kammattipaadam will be similar to Rajeev’s previous directorials, Annayum Rasoolum (Anna and Rasool) and Njan Steve Lopez (I am Steve Lopez), which were highly neo-realist in style.

Dulquer plays Krishnan, a native of Kammattipaadam, a lesser-known area which lies behind the Ernakulam railway station. The movie traces Krishnan’s younger days in Kochi and his adulthood in Mumbai. In Kammattipaadam, the actor appears as a middle-aged man, for the first time in his career, .

Veteran cinematographer Madhu Neelakantan has handled the camera for Kammattipaadam. The film is scheduled to release on May 20.
