Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga stars Sonam Kapoor with her father Anil Kapoor for the first time together. Rajkummar Rao and Juhi Chawla also play the lead. Regina Cassandra makes her Hindi debut with the film. Directed by Shelly Chopra Dhar, the film is set to release in February 2019. Trailer releases today.
A teaser of the film was released by Anil Kapoor on his birthday recently. It began with the clip of the iconic song ‘Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga’ from the Anil Kapoor and Manisha Koirala starrer, 1942: A Love Story. The teaser said that this film, happening in 2018, will be full of complications unlike the previous simple love story.
The film’s posters and teaser call it ‘the most unexpected romance of the year’. Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla play Sonam’s parents. Rajkummar Rao, a playwright in the film, is her lover. It is said that Anil and Juhi’s romance gets as much importance in the story.
At a press meet recently, Sonam said, “It is a love story, it is also a story of a bond between a parent and child. In India, we go through a situation where we have to explain to our parents for our partners.”
She also said no one besides she and Anil Kapoor could’ve done the father-daughter role. “I was very skeptical to do a film with my father. We have been approached for films several times. I said yes to Shelly Chopra as I loved the story and I felt this is the film that dad and I should do together,” she said.
“I never found authenticity or idealism in any of the other films. I felt nobody besides me and my father (were apt) to do Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. We are glad to know that we were the first choice of the director.”

The film is reportedly made on a small-budget. Rajkummar Rao who is known for making small budget films like Omerta, Fanney Khan, Stree and Love Sonia, said at the press meet, “I do not think that the success of any film has anything to do with the budget, content decides the budget. If the content is strong and audience like the film, it will be a successful one.”
Anil, Sonam and Rajkummar all have upcoming films as they await the release of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga. Sonam is working with with Dulquer Salmaan for The Zoya Factor, directed by Abhishek Sharma.
Rajkummar is shooting for Mental Hai Kya with Kangana Ranaut. It’s their first together after Queen, and is produced by Ekta Kapoor and directed by Prakash Kovelamudi. Anil Kapoor is working on Karan Johar’s Takht, a film based on Aurangazeb’s life. He plays Aurangazeb’s father Shah Jahan in the film.
