Ente Mazha, the Malayalam musical-family film led by actors Manoj K Jayan, Nedumudi Venu and Narian, is ready for release, director Sunil Subramanian tells Silverscreen India.
Venu passed away in October 2021 and Ente Mazha is one of the late actor’s last films.
The film’s first look poster was recently unveiled by the makers and other industry personalities, like actor Suresh Gopi, via social media.
Ente Mazha is produced by Anil Kumar under the Anmay Creations banner. The producer has also written the screenplay and dialogues, based on a story conceived by director Sunil.
Sunil, who has previously worked on some short films, including a State Award-winning project titled Kalpanthakalam, makes his feature directorial debut with Ente Mazha. He says, “The film follows the story of two school-going boys, played by Anmay and Adhish Praveen. Their grown-up versions are played by Narian and Sreejith Ravi, respectively. One of the central characters (Anmay/Narain) hails from a family with a music background and has a stammering issue, and the other character (Adhish/Sreejith) bullies him over this. The story explores their life and their growth.”
“The film shifts between two time periods, one in the 1990s and another in the present day. It will be a feel-good entertainer for family audiences, with sequences of school days that evoke nostalgia,” he adds.
The debutant director reveals that Manoj essays the father of Anmay, while Nedumudi Venu will be seen as their family friend and well-wisher.

On working with the late Venu, the filmmaker says, “It was a wonderful experience. I remember the Katcheri song was planned to be shot in two days. But with the cooperation of Venu sir and Manoj, we were able to finish it within one day.”
He adds that the film has five songs, one of which is the Katcheri song composed by Sharreth, with lyrics by Padmasree Kaithapram.
Sunil says they chose the title Ente Mazha (My Rain) as rain is a significant part of the film, adding that many important scenes have rain as their background.
The film was shot between September and November 2021 in Pattambi, Ottapalam and Thrissur.
The makers are hoping for a theatrical release in the coming weeks.
