Escape Artist Acquires Pasanga 2 Rights; Title Changed For Tax Exemptions

The distribution rights of director Pandiraj’s upcoming film Pasanga 2 have been acquired by Madan, of Escape Artists Motion Pictures. The first look poster, along with the new title Pasanga 2, was unveiled yesterday. The movie had been titled ‘Haiku’ initially, but the name was changed to Pasanga 2 to benefit from the 30% tax exemption available to films with a Tamil title. Sony Music South has been associated with the film, and the audio launch dates are expected shortly. Tax concessions are granted to films with a Tamil title provided they fulfil other criteria including, having a ‘U’ certificate, limiting violence and obscenity, and having dialogues in Tamil only, with context-specific exceptions. The incentive is extended to films in order to promote Tamil language and culture by the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Pasanga 2 is tipped to be child-friendly story based on three Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) children. ADHD is a disorder characterised by inattention, restlessness, and impulsivity, which typically manifests by ages six to twelve. Actors Karthik Kumar and Bindu Madhavi act as the parents of the children. Actress Amala Paul and actor Suriya will have cameo appearances. According to WHO (World Health Organization) estimates, 39 million people had ADHD in 2013. Despite being considered a developmental disorder, several people with ADHD have been extremely successful in life, including Hollywood celebrities Jim Carrey and Paris Hilton, and the most decorated Olympian of all time, swimmer Michael Phelps.

Like Pasanga 2, Pandiraj’s 2009 film Pasanga also featured several debutant child actors, with a storyline involving two 6th grade boys at a local Government school, and the rivalry and friendship between them. Pasanga was both a commercial success and the recipient of several awards, including three National Awards under the categories of Best Tamil Film, Best Dialogues and Best Child Artists Award. The film also screened at international film festivals in China, Norway, Bangladesh, and the USA.
