Fawad Khan Was The First Choice For Saif Ali Khan’s Role In Kaalakaandi

Kaalakaandi, directed by the scriptwriter of Delhi Belly, features Saif Ali Khan in a very different role. He plays a man who discovers that he doesn’t have a lot of time in his hands thanks to stomach cancer, and goes down a path that’s laden with sex, expletives, and lots of drugs with a melange of characters. Incidentally, Fawad Khan, who along with other Pakistani artistes have been banned from working in Bollywood, was the initial choice for the role.

Director Akshat Verma said that when the film was with UTV, they were in talks with Fawad to play the role.

“Fawad was supposed to be one of the actors we talked to when the project was with UTV. It was around 2013… He was going to play Saif’s role. But ultimately everything happens for a reason and for the best. No one could have done the role better than Saif,” Akshat tells PTI.

However, the director also revealed that he always had Saif in mind while working on the script of the film.

Produced by Cinestaan Film Company and Ashi Dua Sara of Flying Unicorn, Kaalakaandi also features Kunal Roy Kapoor, Sobhita Dhulipala, Vijay Raaz, Deepak Dobriyal, Isha Talwar, Shenaz Treasurywala, Nary Singh & Akshay Oberoi. The film is slated for a January 12 release next year.
