Film will be an inspiration, says Mariappan Thangavelu

Aishwarya R Dhanush’s next film will be a biopic on Mariyappan Thangavelu, India’s Paralympic Gold Medalist. Recently, Shah Rukh Khan announced the film and revealed it’s first look poster on Twitter.

In an interview with Deccan Chronicle, the gold medalist Mariyappan Thangavelu expressed excitement for the project. The Salem-based athlete said,  “I think this film will inspire other athletes and sports-persons like me, who are from rural backgrounds. In that way, I really feel happy about this project.”

When asked about fictional elements being added to it, Mariyappan said that the movie will be entirely based on his life. Another significant part of the movie will be the role of Thangavelu’s mother in shaping his life and career. The self-proclaimed ‘Thalaivar’ fan will also get to live his dream; he is all set to meet Superstar Rajnikanth soon. “I’m a fan of Thalaivar and I would be delighted if I meet him,” he added.

The makers of the film approached Thangavelu about two months ago and a formal agreement is yet to be signed by him. “I have been given a date to come to Chennai for the formal proceedings,” he said. The high-jumper is currently busy training for his next medal quests which is the forthcoming Asian Games, Olympics, and World Championships.

The biopic will be helmed by Aishwarya R Dhanush with Velraj behind the camera and Sean Roldan composing the music. This being the seasons of biopics, and all garnering critics’ and fans’ acclaim, we can expect Kollywood to wholly accept this one as well.
