Omar Lulu, the Malayalam filmmaker, will be making his debut in Hindi with the remake of his 2016 Malayalam film Happy Wedding. In his social media post announcing the remake, he added that he is planning to start filming for the project by the end of this year.
Speaking to Silverscreen India, Omar said, “Happy Wedding was my debut film as a director in Malayalam and so I am happy to remake it in Hindi. I showed the film to a Bollywood producer and he agreed to back the project.”
Omar further said that the Hindi remake will feature a mix of new faces and known artists. “Right now, I cannot reveal much about the film. Details about the cast, crew and production banner will be announced officially later,” he added.
Happy Wedding, starring Siju Wilson, Sharaf U Dheen, Soubin Shahir and Justin John, is a romantic comedy. Produced by Nazir Ali under the Ozone Productions banner, the film was distributed by Eros International.
The film revolves around an engineering student named Hari who tries hard to hold on to a successful relationship, but fails each time. His cousin Manu and a motivational speaker decide to step in and help his love life.

On choosing this particular film for a Hindi adaptation, Omar said he believes the subject is still fresh and the audience will enjoy the feel-good and light-hearted content. “Happy Wedding revolves around college life, travel and a wedding. And I believe this type of mood and subject fits the Bollywood model.”
As per a report in the International Business Times, Happy Wedding collected a gross of Rs 13.70 crore at box offices across the world. The film was initially released in 35 theatres in Kerala and following a positive response, it was expanded to 130 screens and completed a successful run of 100 days in Kerala. Further, the satellite rights of the film were acquired by Surya TV for Rs 2.10 crore.
After Happy Wedding, Omar directed a few more comedy films like Chunkzz (2017), Oru Adaar Love (2019) and Dhamaka (2020).
