Financier Mukanchand Bothra, currently in jail, has accused the Chennai City Crime Branch of mistreating him.
A spokesperson for Bothra and his family told Silverscreen, “Bothra sir suffers from various health issues. He has consistently been denied water and food supplies by the Crime Branch in an attempt to force him to spill secrets. He is a patient, and needs regular medication. Despite our repeated representations to the Government and the police, this situation has continued.”
Bothra’s sons Gagan and Sandeep have also been arrested. Bothra has been lodged in jail under the Goondas Act.
However, an investigation officer attached to the Bothra case has refuted these claims and said, “Bothra complained of eye issues last week, and immediately an opthalmologist was made available to him. Whatever he has asked for, has been given.”

According to a Maalaimalar report, Bothra was unable to walk on his own and requested a wheelchair during his recent appearance at the Madras High Court. It took the police accompanying him a long time to get him one. When he complained about this and other instances of ill-treatment to the magistrate, a plainclothesman allegedly grabbed his collar.
The police were immediately reprimanded by the magistrate. They were also given further time to question Bothra.
