The first-look poster of Ranveer Singh as cricketer Kapil Dev in 83 is out. Ranveer, Deepika Padukone, who joined the sets recently to play Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Dev, and the rest of the team are shooting in London currently.
The poster was released today, on Ranveer’s 34th birthday. In the poster, he has a striking resemblance to Kapil Dev, the captain of the cricket team when India won the World Cup in 1983. The film, directed by Kabir Khan, will recreate the events that led to India’s victory in the tournament.
Ranveer wrote on Twitter, “On my special day, here’s presenting THE HARYANA HURRICANE KAPIL DEV.”

The film also stars Jiiva as cricketer Krishnamachari Srikanth. Allu Arjun and Vijay Devarakonda were first considered for the part but as Srikanth is from Tamil Nadu, the filmmakers preferred an actor from the state for the role.
Jiiva signed on in October and trained in Dharamshala with the rest of the team. Saqib Salim plays Mohinder Amarnath, Tahir Raj Bhasin is Sunil Gavaskar, Sahil Khattar plays Syed Kirmani, Chirag Patil, the real-life son of cricketer Sandeep Patil, plays his father, and Ammy Virk plays Balwinder Singh Sandhu.
Music for the film is by Preetham, cinematography by Aseem Mishra, and editing by Rameshwar S Bhagat. The movie is scheduled to release in April 2020.
