Ganesh Visarjan Controversy: Kareena Kapoor Khan Defends Rishi Kapoor

Kareena Kapoor Khan has come out in support of her uncle Rishi Kapoor over reports of him manhandling journalists earlier this week. A video surfaced online purportedly showing Rishi and his actor-brother Randhir Kapoor slapping and pushing a few media persons and fans during the immersion of their family’s Ganesh idol on September 15.

“I wanted to know what exactly happened. I don’t know what happened that day. There must have been something for him (Rishi Kapoor) to be upset. Otherwise, I don’t think a man of his stature would lose his cool. I think something would have happened,” Kareena told PTI.

“He is a very senior man and an intelligent person. He knows what he is doing. Obviously, something would have triggered that upset him. There were so many people and it was raining, something must have upset him,” the actress reasoned.

Interestingly, Rishi Kapoor too used a similar argument to defend himself.v”It is impossible when there is so much rain and public to not lose your temper,” he told the media.

Meanwhile, reports emerged recently that the journalist in question denied being slapped or manhandled by Rishi Kapoor. DNA quoted him saying, “I was going towards Ranbir with my cameraman to take his byte, but he sat in the car and left. The camera wire got stuck in my foot and I fell down on my own. The video has been cleverly edited because Ranbir never pushed or hit me. In fact, no one checked with me before carrying that video. I have no malice against Rishiji, Randhirji or Ranbir. There were a lot of us walk around close to Rishiji and he didn’t ask us to move aside or push us… I was there during the whole Ganpati procession that day… Given all the practical conditions – the heavy rains, the crowd going berserk, the Kapoor family did not target or misbehave with any media persons.”
