Director Gautham Menon will remake the recent Telugu hit film Pelli Choopulu into Tamil. The film, directed by Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam, is a romantic comedy starring Vijay Devarakonda and Ritu Varma. It narrates the story of two youngsters who meet at a formal matchmaking ceremony and decide to become business partners, instead of wedding each other.
Pelli Choopulu was released in July 2016. Produced by Raj Kandukuri and Yash Rangineni, the film was made on a budget of just over Rs. 1.3 crore but managed to gross over Rs. 37 crore at the box-office.

Gautham Menon, known for making intense dramas such as Vinnathaandi Varuvaya and Vaaranam Aayiram, runs a production company called Ondraga Entertainments which is bankrolling his latest film, Achcham Enbathu Madamaiyada. The film, a Tamil-Telugu bilingual starring Silambarasan/Naga Chaitanya and Manjima Mohan is yet to be released. He is currently working on Enai Noki Payum Thotta, a romantic-thriller, which he is co-producing. The film stars Dhanush and Megha Akash.
