Speaking about the film, Mehta said, “This film is totally different from all my past works. The joy of making stories is constantly evolving and you can’t stand still, it’s constantly changing.”
The film is based out in Haryana and is shot in a small village school. The trailer shows glimpses of characters, the children’s love for their PT teacher Montu sir, his ambitions, dream and love interests. It also shows a clash between Montu sir and his colleague where the former wants to prove himself a better mentor, all through laughter.
While comparing her choices of films in the past, to that of Chhalaang’s ‘Nilima’, Bharucha said, “Previously Hindi cinema was about showing characters that were ‘larger than life’. But now, the world has become smaller and the stories have become more real and more connectable.”

While being extremely relevant to student and teacher’s life, Chhalaang is a complete package filled with emotions of love, comedy, friendship, rivalry and emotional drama making it a perfect Diwali family entertainer. We look forward to the film’s global release on Amazon Prime Video.”
