Swara Bhasker is no stranger to trolls, but this time she was part of an online parody. Twitter users have been asking the actress to resign as the Prime Minister of India. Confused? Here’s why:
In the wake of the recent Muzaffarpur shelter home rapes, one Twitter user asked why Bollywood was not holding a placard in protest against this incident. To this, Swara replied: “Bollywood is not in power, governance is not Bollywood’s responsibility. Why don’t you ‘just ask’ the government and those in power, such questions?”
Par sir #Bollywood toh sattaa mein nahi hai na, governance ka kaam Bollywood ka toh nahi hai na… Aap ‘maney sarkaar aur sataadhaariyon sey kyun nahi poochhtey bas’ ??!!????? ???? https://t.co/cGxeNgeH5L

On August 5, Twitter users had some fun pretending Swara to be the Prime Minister of India. Users from all over tweeted out what they would say to PM Swara if she were to complete four years in office. Here are some reactions which translated into #SwaraMustResign.
I mean, @ReallySwara is truly pathetic as PM. Nirav Modi is still abroad, Swiss bank money isn't back, Ram Mandir isn't built, Chinese are in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Maldives, Dawood is not in India, US cancels 2×2 meeting, India loses at Edgbaston… astounding failures. https://t.co/zNZ9Hbl507

What started off as a silly joke, led to an extensive trolling session, with Bhasker’s face being photoshopped on the face of the Prime Minister Modi.

This is not the first time Swara was trolled. She is known for speaking up against social crimes and questioning the government for not taking any action. At the time of Veere Di Weeding’s release, Swara and her co-stars Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor had protested against the Kathua and Unnao rape cases, which led to the right-wing trolls urging people to boycott the film.
The actress was also trolled after the film showed her character masturbating. Reacting to the trolls, the actress said that she has the freedom to express her opinion. “Everybody has right to express opinion. I kept my views in a very polite manner & had no wrong intentions. I put forward a few legitimate questions. I didn’t expect so much chaos just because I used a word which starts with ‘V’,” she said.
