Vidya Balan On Nepotism: “Everywhere, People Look Out For Their Own”

Vidya Balan, in an interview with Pinkvilla, shared her thoughts on nepotism, and the much-talked about Karan Johar-Kangana Ranaut spat.

“I personally haven’t experienced that [nepotism],” Vidya said, “I have absolutely no one in the film industry, but I did have the luxury of choice because I am a Bombay girl.”

Vidya also added that her family had been extremely supportive, and that she never had to run away from home.

“Survival was never an issue, and hence I am saying it is a luxury of choice. When you have to first sort out survival issues, it becomes very difficult for you, really…. your choices are dictated by that.”

The 38-year-old actress also observed that Bollywood has ‘camps’ and ‘human beings tend to have favourites’. “You talk of the tribe, it has been there since time immemorial. It has been there in the animal kingdom, too. And that is how it operates. Not just in the film industry, but everywhere. Wherever people can, they will look out for their own people. But thankfully, I have been God’s favourite child.”
