Actor Shanthanu Bhagyaraj has announced the title of his next film co-starring Athulya Ravi. Titled Murungaikkai Chips, the film is being helmed by debutant Srijar and bankrolled by Ravindar Chandrasekaran‘s Libra Productions in association with Sivasubramanian and Saravanapriyan’s First Man Film Works. Touted to be a family entertainer, the film deals with the traditional practices followed during the first night after marriage “without any obscenity”. It is reportedly a full-fledged romcom. Murungakkai aka drumsticks were made famous as an aphrodisiac in Tamil cinema (they aren’t in reality) by Bhagyaraj in his films, starting with Mundhanai Mudichi.
Apart from the lead pair, Murungaikkai Chips will also star K Bhagyaraj, Manobala, Anand Raj, Mayilsamy, Motta Rajendran, Yogi Babu, ‘Prank’ Rahul, Raju, Reshma Pasupuleti, Madhumitha and others in important roles.
Debutant Srijar has worked on several television serials down South and has also been an associate and co-director for films like Jambhavan (Tamil, 2006) and Lavender (Malayalam, 2015). On the technical front, Ramesh Chakravarthy is handling the camera, Jomein Mathew on the edit, Dharan Kumar on music, and Narmadha Veni on art. Nivetha Joseph is designing costumes, Sathish Krishnan is handling choreography with Noor on stunt.
The team began shooting in March but had to halt all activity owing to the nationwide lockdown. Work on the film will commence post-lockdown.
