Actress Janani Iyer, who was recently in the news for signing Ultaa, has signed another film, titled Thollaikatchi. Themed as a village-based comedy, Janani Iyer will be paired opposite Ashwin Kakumanu, of Mankatha fame. Earlier, actress Chandini Sreedharan had been signed as the female lead. The actress opted out of the project for undisclosed reasons. This will be Janani Iyer’s first role as a rural heroine. Shooting of the film had begun, and the actress will soon join the team in Pollachi.
Ashwin’s role is that of a man who aspires to be an actor. Both leads expect the film, a satire, to be different from their previous work. Thollaikatchi is the debut directorial of Mr Sadiq Khan, a former assistant of AR Murugadoss and N Lingusamy. This film also stars Lollu Sabha Jeeva, Manobala and Mayilsamy in supporting roles.
