The release of the gangster musical Jigarthanda has been postponed to August 1st, marking the third time the movie has been delayed. With Velaiyilla Pattathari well on its way to becoming a hit, theatre owners and distributors are said to have advised Jigarthanda’s producer S Kathireshan to delay the release by a week so he can ensure the availability of theaters for his film. The producer confirmed the news and told us, “VIP is running successfully now and I wanted to give it one more week before I went ahead and released Jigarthanda. Both are big movies and need their space. Releasing them back to back would not have been a wise decision.”

Earlier, Jigarthanda had been postponed due to a disagreement between the producer and the director over the film getting a U/A censor certificate.
Meanwhile, actor Siddharth alleged that he were not informed about this change and took to his Twitter account to vent. Siddharth attributed the delay to ‘external unfair pressure’ but refused to divulge any details. Director Karthik Subbaraj declined to comment on the issue and has said that he will make an official statement soon.
The producer plans to release Jigarthanda on August 1st pitting it against Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam, Sarabham and Nambiyar.
