Theatres in the country were closed for around 35 years due to pressure from hardline clerics in the country who claim that movies are inconsistent as far as the right interpretation of Islam is concerned. This makes Kaala’s release in the country all the more significant.
Earlier this year, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman lifted the ban on theatres. Following this, Marvel superhero film Black Panther became the first-ever film to release in the country.
Kaala, starring Rajinikanth, Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi and Samuthirakani, released on June 7 all over the world.
