Actor Kalki Koechlin is the latest recipient of the French distinction of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres). She was conferred the honour in a ceremony held recently.
The actor was honoured for her striking roles in the Indian film industry and also for her deep commitment to important social issues.
Though she was raised in India, Koechlin has French roots. Alexandre Ziegler, the Ambassador of France to India, presented the award.

Ziegler said that Koechlin was chosen as she “contributed to enhancing Indo-French ties in Cinema”.
Late artist Ram Kumar, writer Mahashweta Devi, Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sivaji Ganesan, singer M Balamuralikrishna are all recipients of this honour.
Kalki Koechlin made her acting debut with Anurag Kashyap’s Dev D. She cemented her place in the acting world with roles in films such as Shanghai, Margarita With A Straw among others.
