Kamal Haasan has asked the TN Government to do a more thorough assessment of the damage caused by the Gaja cyclone. Through a series of tweets, the actor and politician said that those who say that the damages to TN farmers and land is not great must be declared a national disaster.
“After visiting places affected by Gaja cyclone, the politicians who shamelessly lie to the media that the damage is not great, must be declared our national disaster,” he tweeted.
Earlier in the day, the actor said that the relief fund announced by the Government for those affected is not enough. A spokesperson for the actor said that Kamal and his Makkal Needhi Maiyam want the Government to provide the necessary funds immediately and in one go. “At present, they have announced that the money will be distributed in three instalments. First, the money announced is very low. In addition to this injustice, they want to go with a payment plan. Nobody has the time to wait. Without the necessary funds, nobody can do anything about their lives. This is a failure on the State Government’s part,” he said.
(1/6) #MNMForDelta

The actor urged the State Government to make assesment of people displaced by the cyclone. He said that the number of houses damaged by the cyclone and the number of people in shelters were not in sync. Moreover, the shelters provides to the people were in poor condition. All this must be rectified, he wrote on his social media account.
All that we have done thus far is merely first-aid, said the actor. “We must do more in the next eight years to make sure that those affected are rehabilitated. We should leave our political biases behind and wholeheartedly work towards making sure that the people’s problems are solved,” he added.
