If the talks bear fruit, this project will mark the first collaboration of the actor and filmmaker.

“They are discussing doing a film together, but nothing is confirmed so far. It was Kamal Haasan who initiated the talks regarding a possible collaboration. He invited Pa Ranjith over; they met a while ago. The project might get confirmed soon. However, the script, production house, and other details have not yet been finalised,” the source added.

Meanwhile, both Ranjith and Haasan have several projects lined up independently.

Ranjith, who last directed the hit period sports drama Sarpatta Parambarai, is currently working on his next Tamil film, Natchathiram Nagargirathu. It is expected to be a female-centric love story, featuring actors Dushara Vijayan, Kalidas JayaramAshok Selvan, and Shabeer Kallarakkal. The project went on floors in Chennai in July and has about 10 days of shoot left.

The filmmaker also has the Hindi film Birsa Munda, a biopic on the titular freedom fighter, in the pipeline. He has completed the film’s script and the project is currently in the pre-production stage.

Ranjith is also in talks with actor Vikram for a film, Silverscreen India learned.

His film with director Lokesh Kanagaraj, Vikram, co-starring Vijay Sethupathi and Fahadh Faasil, is set to release in April 2022. A glimpse from the film was released on Saturday.

Haasan also has Indian 2, the long-pending sequel to his 1996 film with director Shankar, which is being bankrolled by Lyca Productions. The actor is also in talks with director Vetri Maaran for a film.
