Kanaa‘s theatrical distribution rights for north India is acquired by Ganesh Films India Limited. Directed by Arunraja Kamaraj of Nerupu da fame, Kanaa is a sports film starring Aishwarya Rajesh in the lead. It releases on December 21.
It was earlier reported that Ganesh Films India Limited has acquired north India’s distribution rights. A spokesperson for the film confirmed this to Silverscreen, and said, “The theatrical distribution rights for north India has been acquired by Nambi Raj of Ganesh Films India Limited.”
The company has the distribution rights for Vikram Prabhu’s Thuppakki Munai and Prashanth’s Johnny. It also recently acquired the rights for Maari 2 directed by Balaji Mohan, and Sarvam Thaala Mayam by Rajiv Menon.
Starring Aishwarya Rajesh, Dharshan and Sathyaraj in lead roles, Kanaa is a sports film about a girl from a village who dreams of winning women’s cricket at a national level.
Blade Shankar, Ilavarasu, Ramadoss, Rama and Savari Muthu have important roles, and Sivakarthikeyan plays a cameo. The actor has also sung the track ‘Vayadi Petha Pulla’ with his daughter Aaradhana.
Music for the film is by composer Dhibu Ninan Thomas. The album has a love song sung by Anirudh Ravichander, written by Arunraja.
The title Kanaa, translating to ‘dream’ in English, has the tagline ‘Dream Big’. Director Arunraja had earlier said, “I have done a lot of research on this subject. I observed that while 1,000 boys attend cricket division selection matches, only 60 girls participate in the women’s cricket division matches.”
“My script will throw light on the struggles of one such courageous woman. Though it is a sports film, it is also an emotional drama involving a man and his daughter who aspires to become a cricketer,” he said.
