Kareena Kapoor Khan will play the female lead in English Medium, the sequel to the 2017 Irrfan starrer Hindi Medium. The actress will reportedly play a cop in the movie.
According to a report in DNA, a source has confirmed Kareena’s participation in the project. Marking her first appearance as cop in her 19-year-long career, Kareena will join the sets of English Medium by May and wrap up her portions by November.
Hindi Medium, featuring Irffan, Saba Qamar and Deepak Dobriyal, was about a couple’s efforts to get their son enrolled in an English medium school. The movie, a social satire, went on to become a huge hit. It also released in China where it became successful.
The sequel, however, deals with Indian students who aim to go to the US to pursue higher education. The movie, which was initially titled Hindi Medium 2, has since been renamed English Medium. The film also takes into consideration students of other nationalities planning to study abroad.
“Hindi Medium 2 was just a working title. So, once the script was locked, the makers decided to keep the title according to the subject. The film now has a time and a country leap, and there will be people of other ethnicities as well. Since the film is now based in the US, it will duly be called English Medium,” a source was quoted by DC.

The movie is touted to be Irrfan’s comeback film after he was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumour last year.
Meanwhile, Kareena is currently shooting alongside Akshay Kumar for the Karan Johar production Good News. She has also been picked for Karan’s Takht in which she will share screenspace with Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal and Jhanvi Kapoor.
