The first look of Karthi’s new movie Dev was unveiled by Suriya on Twitter. Directed by debutant Rajath Ravishankar, the movie also features Rakul Preeth, the actor’s co-star from his previous movie Kadaikutty Singham.
Wielding a helmet in one hand, the jacket-clad actor is positioned in front of a sports bike with an intense stare on his face. It has been reported that Karthi plays a biker in the movie.

Dev also stars Prakash Raj and Ramya Krishnan. Actor Karthik is also rumoured to be playing a cameo in the movie. Harris Jeyaraj composes the music for the movie. The music director who hasn’t had a single album out since last year’s Spyder awaits the release of this movie as well as Vikram’s Dhruva Natchathiram this year.
The shooting of Dev took place in Manali, and was stalled due to landslides and flash floods that hit the region in September. Though Karthi – who was stranded in a car for a couple of hours – managed to return to safety, close to 140 members of the movie crew were stranded on a mountaintop without food or connectivity. The producers had incurred a loss of around 1.5 crores.
Karthi has seen a revived career after last year’s Theeran: Adhigaaran Ondru and this year’s Kadaikutty Singham. Theeran, which was based on the real-life incidents of Operation Bawaria, saw him play a cop while he played a farmer in Pandiraj’s Kadaikutty Singham. The movie won praise from for its portrayal of farming in a fresh light.
Meanwhile on Twitter, people have found out that Karthi has never worked with the same director twice:
Amazing that @Karthi_Offl has worked with 17 different directors for his 17 movies. Is there anyone like him achieving such a feat? Hopefully he continues the same experimenting with versatile roles.#Dev #Karthi17 #Filmography pic.twitter.com/rwpuwjXqAN
