‘Kennedy Club’ Release Postponed To August 22

Kennedy Club Movie Stills Starring M Sasikumar, Bharathiraja

The release of Suseenthiran’s upcoming sports film Kennedy Club has been postponed from August 15 to August 22. The film stars Sasikuamar, Bharathiraja and others.

The spokesperson for film confirmed the news to SilverscreenThe reason for the delay is not known but it is speculated that the filmmakers wanted to avoid clashes with the other August 15 releases – Jayam Ravi-starrer Comali and Samantha Akkineni’s Oh Baby in Tamil.

Kennedy Club, starring Meenakshi, Gayathri, Sowmya, Smirthi, Soundarya, the players of the famous Vennila Kabbadi Kuzhu team, and Samuthirakani, Soori and Munishkanth in important roles, tells the story of a women’s kabbadi team fighting all odds to win.

At the film’s audio launch, Sasikumar said that a sequel to the film can also be expected soon, and a few scenes have already been shot for it.

Urging people to watch content-driven films, he told Cinema Express, “I would call this film a biopic as the characters played by me and Bharathiraja sir are completely inspired by the life of coach Selvam and Nallu Saamy ayya (Suseenthiran’s father who is also a kabaddi player, and founder of Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu) respectively.”

The film is produced by Thai Saravanan for Nallusamy Pictures. Music is by D Imman, cinematography by RB Gurudev. The team shot live Kabaddi matches in Erode, Madurai, Salem, Kanyakumari and Coimbatore, and also in Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

The producers said in a statement in February, “We have reached Maharashtra for the final leg of shooting. We need to travel 180 kms to reach Isapur where a grand set of a Kabbadi ground that can accommodate 25,000 spectators has been erected. Following this, we are planning to shoot live matches in Punjab-Haryana. It is noteworthy that around 600 women’s kabbadi teams are there in this part of our country.”

The Chinese theatrical rights for Kennedy Club have been sold to a distribution house in China for Rs 2 crores. The release date in China is yet to be announced.
