Kerala HC Asks For Progress Report In Probe Into Kalabhavan Mani’s Death

The Kerala High Court has ordered the State government to file a progress report on the official probe into the death of actor Kalabhavan Mani. The actor passed away on March 6, 2016 at a private hospital in Kochi.

The court ordered a probe after the late actor’s brother, R.L.V. Ramakrishnan filed for a CBI probe into the case. The High Court has also asked a clear stand from CBI on the matter as well.

The petitioner has stated that the police have not conducted a fair investigation. The State Government had also decided to entrust the CBI with the investigation after considering the petitioner’s request.

Recently, the police filed a surprising final report on the case before the Chalakudy Magistrate court. “The duty of the State Police had ended by handing over the case to the CBI. They should not have gone ahead with the investigation. The continuation of investigation by the State police despite the government decision should be viewed as a deliberate attempt to ensure that the CBI did not take over the probe,” the petitioner R.L.V Ramakrishnan added.
