KR Vijaya has been cast in the big upcoming film, Maya Mohini. The veteran actress will play an exorcist in the horror film directed by Rasa Vikram. KR Vijaya’s assistant told Silverscreen that the actress signed on for the film after the film’s director Rasa Vikram persuaded her. “Madam is still recovering from her recent injury. Since her husband’s passing, she has been very reluctant to work in films. And so, it was only after much persuasion that she accepted,” she said.

Rasa Vikram also told us that he was very particular about the actress playing the role. “Vijaya ma’m played a ghost in Karpagam for a few scenes, and that particular image has stayed with me. For this character, I could only see Vijaya ma’m play it and nobody else.”

The film deals with a reporter (Jothisha) and her cameraman (Abdullah) who are assigned the investigation of the case in which villagers blame a local ghost for the mysterious happenings in their little hamlet. The story behind the film has been drawn from the life of the film’s producer, Thangavelu. “When I was very young, I had felt the presence of Mohini in my village. She used to come in my dreams — and when I  woke up in the morning, I’d be lying in the garden! She was haunting me until I got married. The director has tweaked my experiences a bit for the narrative form,” he told DC.

KR Vijaya has been in the Tamil industry for over three decades. After the death of her husband last year, the actress retreated to her estate in Kerala to recuperate. Earlier this month, Vijaya was the target of a death hoax and was forced to issue a denial.
