The Global Filmmaking Award is aimed at honouring and supporting the most promising emerging filmmakers from around the world. Last year, Indian director Shonali Bose had won the award for Margarita With A Straw (2014).
Insha Allah is Geetu’s second feature film, after the critically-acclaimed Liars’ Dice (2013). The film is about a boy from the Lakshadweep Islands who travels to the mainland in search of his older brother. Geetu, who began her career as a child actress in Malayalam cinema, acted in many popular films in Malayalam and Tamil, before stepping into direction. Her first directorial venture was the short film “Kelkkunnundo‘ (Are you listening). She is married to cinematographer Rajeev Ravi, who has also worked on Insha Allah.
