A couple who fake a marriage to try out a live-in relationship, is largely the story and the title of Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon’s new movie Luka Chuppi.
Directed by debutant Laxman Utekar, and produced by Dinesh Vijan, Luka Chuppi is a romantic comedy. The trailer which released earlier today begins with Kartik Aaryan’s references to all the recent celebrity weddings. Calling it the ‘season of marriages’, Aryan’s character Guddu too decides to get married.
This sets off a chain of events which eventually results in a situation where Guddu’s partner Rashmi (played by Kriti Sanon) exclaims, “This has to be the world’s first live-in relationship where the entire family is living with the couple.” By setting the story in a rural world, the makers add a ‘desi spin’ to live-in relationships that are often understood as an urban concept.
Karthik Aaryan plays a news reporter in the movie. He was last seen in the 2018 sleeper hit Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. Kriti Sanon, who plays the female lead in Luka Chuppi, was seen in an item number in the Dinesh Vijan production Stree. Also, Pankaj Tripathi and Aparshakthi Khuranna, the two actors from Stree, have a role in Luka Chuppi. In spite of his blink-and-miss appearance, Vinay Pathak makes his presence felt in the trailer.
Luka Chuppi has been scripted by Rohan Shankar. Tanishk Bagchi and Abhijit Vaghani are the two music directors in the movie.
Going by the trailer, Luka Chuppi belongs to the school of Stree and Badhaai Ho, where scale takes a backseat and the movie rides on the concept and performances. The makers have adapted live-in relationship, seen as a western concept, to a rural/semi-rural setting.
Luka Chuppi releases on March 1.
