Kadalai, directed by debutant Shankar and starring Aishwarya Rajesh and Ma Ka Pa Anand faces a dispute over its title with the director of a movie titled Kadala Poda Oru Ponnu Venum. Ananda Raj, director of Kadala Poda Oru Ponnu Venum has filed a complaint with the Tamil Nadu Film Producer’s Council claiming the two titles resembled each other closely.
In an interview to the Times of India, Ananda Raj said, “[The Producer’s Council] shouldn’t have allowed it to happen as the officials know that the title for my film was registered three years ago”.
Director Suresh of Kadalai told Silverscreen that the issue has been resolved with the Producer’s Council and the movie will retain it’s title. He said, “The problem is all a misunderstanding. The first look poster of of my film reads “Neenga Kadalai Pottu Irukengala”, which is similar to the other movie’s title. However, the title is just Kadalai“.
The director said that he was unaware of the other movie’s title and had used the line in the poster only for publicity.
Kadalai was initially titled Deepavali Thuppakki, It was later renamed to Kadalai, as the movie is based on farming. Produced by Dream Factory, the movie is slated for an August release.
