Maanik, a comedy drama directed by Martin and starring Ma Ka Pa Anand and Suza Kumar in the lead, is all set to hit the screens on January 4.
Ma Ka Pa Anand, who made his debut through Vanavarayan Vallavarayan directed by Rajmohan is a TV anchor turned actor and a former RJ at Radio Mirchi in Dubai. The film’s title was inspired by Rajinikanth’s character in Baashha (1995). Said to be a fantasy love drama, it went on floors in June 2016 at AVM Studios in Chennai.
Martin, who was one of the top finalists in season five of the reality show, Naalaya Iyakkunar, is quoted as saying in a Deccan Chronicle report: “Two friends (played by Ma Ka Pa and Vatsan) who grow up at an ashram leave the place to achieve something in a particular field. The problems they face during their journey form the crux of the story. It is a comedy film with fantasy elements incorporated.”
“The name is easy and has a nice ring to it. Also, it is catchy and hence the reach will be wide,” he said of the title.
Dharan Kumar and Madhumitha have composed music, and the film features Arul Das, Anu, Yogi Babu, Golisoda Seetha, Jangri Madhumitha, Bujji Babu, Siva Shankar and Manobala in pivotal roles. Mirchi Vijay has written lyrics for the songs, MR Palanikumar handles the cinematography and KM Riyas takes care of the editing.
Last seen in fantasy comedy drama Panjumittai directed by debutant SP Mohan, Anand will also be seen in Ispade Rajavum Idhaya Raniyum, a romantic comedy directed by Ranjit Jeyakodi. The film stars Harish Kalyan and Shilpa Manjunath with Ma Ka Pa Anand and Bala Saravanan in supporting roles. Music for the film is composed by Sam CS, while editing is done by Bavan Sreekumar and cinematography is handled by Kavin Raj.
